OPEN AUDITIONS!

Director Tess Hogans seeks 25 men and women between the ages of 15-75 to fill the roles of the chorus and principal characters in the Garfield Center for the Arts’ spring production of the famous musical; My Fair Lady. Based on Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion”, My Fair Lady tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who is taken in by a phonetics professor named Henry Higgins. He makes a bet that he can pass her off as a duchess at the embassy ball by teaching her to speak properly. Written by Alan Jay Lerner with music by Frederick Loewe, The musical’s 1956 Broadway production was a momentous hit, setting a record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version (starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison) and numerous revivals. It has been called “the perfect musical”.

Julie Lawrence is the musical director, and auditions will be held on February 23 & 25 at 6pm, and February 27 at 11am, at the Garfield Center, 210 High Street in Chestertown. All who are interested in auditioning for the play need not have any acting or singing experience, but should bring a prepared song to showcase their vocal range during auditions.

Hogans intends to present a modern version of the show, keeping the music, characters and script the same, but with modern costumes and set. She encourages all who are interested to audition, regardless of gender or ethnicity.

The show will run three weekends, and opens April 15th. Contact Tess Hogans for more information: thogans@garfieldcenter.org
