THE GARFIELD CENTER ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR “A SHERLOCK CAROL”
The Garfield Center for the Arts has announced audition dates for Mark Shanahan’s “A Sherlock Carol.” Auditions will be held Saturday, October 10th at 2 PM, and Monday and Wednesday October 12th and 14th at 6:30 PM. Auditions on October 10th will be held at the Garfield Center for the Arts, and auditions on October 12th and 14th will be held at the Raimond Cultural Center, located at 101 Spring Avenue in Chestertown (home of the Kent Cultural Alliance).
“A Sherlock Carol” combines aspects of two classics of Victorian literature, and unites them both in a joyful mug of holiday cheer, making Mark Shanahan’s play a festive feast for the senses. When a grown-up Tiny Tim asks Sherlock Holmes to investigate the death of Ebenezer Scrooge, the Great Detective must use his gifts to solve a Dickens of a Christmas mystery! This festive, funny, heartwarming and highly theatrical holiday treat is one for all ages.
Originally conceived to be performed by six actors, casting is flexible and the director intends to expand beyond that cast size. The goal of this production is to lean into the fun and theatricality of the play to create a fast paced, joyful, Dickensian holiday experience for the cast and audiences alike. For this reason, the director encourages anyone to audition – casting will be inclusive. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script as well as acting exercises, and some singing. While the play is not a musical, there are a smattering of Christmas Carols throughout the script that the company will perform.
Rehearsals will begin quickly after audition dates, and the production runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from December 4th through 20th.
