“LUCKY STIFF” AUDITIONS ANNOUNCED!
Audition dates have been announced for the hilarious musical “Lucky Stiff.” Auditions begin Saturday, December 2nd, at 2 PM and continue on Tuesday and Thursday, December 5th and 7th, both evenings starting at 6:30 PM. Directing the production is Steven Arnold, and the Music Director is JW Ruth.

WHAT TO PREPARE: Anyone interested in auditions should come with a prepared song and some form of accompaniment. An accompanist will not be provided but a keyboard will be made available for anyone who brings an accompanist. Singers may perform using their phones if their phone speaker can be heard from the audience, but a Bluetooth speaker will also be made available through the GCA’s WiFi. A CD player is available for use as well if advance arrangements are made with the Director – his email address is listed below. Do not bring accompaniment on a thumb drive as we cannot guarantee we will be able to access it. Singers should not sing along with recorded voices on their music track. We strongly discourage a cappella singing.

AGE TO AUDITION: While the main characters require adult performers, it is possible that performers in their late teens may be eligible for casting in Ensemble roles, some of which feature good individual opportunities. Please be 16 or older for consideration.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
Harry Witherspoon: A shy, sweet-natured, and insecure shoe salesman from England. He feels incapable of taking risks and tries to change that all with a very special trip. Gender: Male. Likely casting age: late 20s to early 40s. Vocal range: Bari-Tenor. Vocal range top: F#4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2.

Annabel Glick: A no-nonsense representative for the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. She is a proactive citizen with an attentive and aggressive personality, and becomes the unexpected love interest of Harry Witherspoon. Gender: Female. Likely casting age: mid 20s to late 30s. Vocal Range: Mezzo. Vocal range top: E5, Vocal range bottom: F#3

Rita La Porta: Vinnie’s high-strung sister with poor eyesight. Impulsive, erratic, and very insecure. Gender: Female. Likely casting age: early 30s to late 40s. Vocal range: Belting Alto. Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: F#3.

Dr. Vincent Di Ruzzio: Rita’s mild-mannered brother who is dragged into her mess. He is an optometrist with predictably conservative tendencies. Gender: Male. Vocal Range: Baritone. Likely Casting Age: late twenties to early forties. Vocal Range: Bari-Tenor. Vocal range top: F#4 Vocal range bottom: A#2.

Luigi Gaudi: Luigi is a mysterious, boisterous Italian who wears a beard and an eye patch. He is also, secretly, Tony (Rita’s lover from New Jersey). Gender: Male. Likely casting age: mid 40s to late 50s. Vocal range: Tenor-Bari. Vocal range top: F#4 Vocal range bottom: B2

Dominique Du Monaco: A vivacious nightclub singer. Gender: Female. Likely casting age: mid 20s to mid 40s. Vocal Range: Mezzo-Alto.

The Body of Uncle Anthony (Non-singing, non-speaking role with great comedy bits): The body of “Uncle Anthony,” who Harry brings with him on a very special trip. Gender: Male. Likely casting age: mid 40s to 60s.

ABOUT THE SHOW: Based on the novel “The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo” by Michael Butterworth, “Lucky Stiff” has a story reminiscent of the popular film “Weekend at Bernie’s.” A mysterious set of circumstances has caused London shoe salesman Harry Witherspoon’s distant uncle, Anthony Hendon, to suddenly pass away. As Anthony’s only living relative, Harry will inherit $6,000,000, but only if he takes the embalmed, wheelchair-strapped body on his Uncle’s planned vacation to Monte Carlo. Harry must follow an activity-specific agenda with the body, or the money will go instead to the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn, whose director, Annabel Glick, follows Harry in the hope that he’ll slip up. Add in a near-sighted and abrasive gangster’s girlfriend, a nervous optometrist, a boisterous and gregarious Italian playboy, a sexy French cabaret singer, and a variety of other over the top characters, and it all results in a story of mistaken identities, disguises, surprising love interests, plot twists and surprising reveals. “Lucky Stiff” is an over-the-top farce that will keep the laughter coming! The show is written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who went on to collaborate on “Ragtime,” “Once on this Island,” and “Seussical.”
