Garfield Center Announces Call for Scripts for Short Attention Span Theatre 10-Minute Play Festival!
The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre is embarking on the exciting annual adventure in theatre known as Short Attention Span Theatre! For those not in the know, that?s our annual 10-minute play festival! Last year, Short Attention Span Theatre celebrated ten years of delightful, funny, and thought-provoking performances at the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre. This year, we?re shaking things up a bit and moving SAST from its usual June(*) performance dates to dates in September. SAST 2015 will go up the weekends of September 18-20 and September 25-27.
We are seeking scripts written by local playwrights for SAST 2015. You may submit up to three 10-minute plays and five 1-minute plays. Please send your submissions to sastplays@garfieldcenter.org. If possible, please send your scripts in PDF format. Your play will fare better if it is well formatted. Look for links on the Live Playwrights’ Society site for tips on formatting. Please include a cover page with your contact information (email, phone, mobile) when you submit your play. We anonymize our scripts before they are read by our panel of judges, so please refrain from putting your name on each page.
The deadline for submissions is midnight Friday, June 19, 2015.
Here is our play selection process: Submissions are anonymized and then read by our panel of judges. Our panel of judges selects a number of submitted plays which are then offered to our group of directors. Our directors select from this list (in addition to a list of published plays). We will announce our final selections by July 10, 2015.
Visit this page to see the list of chosen plays once they are announced.
(*) But wait! There’s still a chance to support local playwrights this June! On Friday, June 5th at 7pm the Live Playwrights’ Society will present Open Mic for the Playwright on the main stage at the Garfield Center for the Arts. Open Mic for the Playwright is a staged reading of short, locally-written scripts. There will be a brief discussion after each script — the idea is to help these local playwrights improve their scripts and increase their chances of their script finding a spot in SAST 2015. Come be a part of the show! Click here to find out more!
