July 28, 2015 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Stretchmarks OPEN AUDITIONS!
Tuesday,  July 28 and Thursday, July 30th at 6pm
Sat August 1 @ 11 am

Cast includes:

  • Annie (25-45)
A hippie, crunchy mom who is a nurse, lives on an organic farm with her amazing husband and can’t wait to be a mommy!
  • Saundra (25-45)
Type A business woman who is super organized and pulled together…thinks parenting will be just like handling her work team. She basically schedules a child in to her life and thinks motherhood will be a breeze.
  • Leda (25-45)
The artsy, quirky, funny party girl who thinks she’s so deep. She’s a writer-slash-photographer-slash-painter-slash-performance artiste! She doesn’t want children because she feels they will take away her freedom and cramp her bohemian style. Becoming a mother is a total shock to her.
  • Mother Nature (45-100)
She should be goddessy-badass-strong with a kind of ageless wisdom. She has many facets and appears on stage as a homeless woman, an interviewer, a new age yoga teacher, a Latino nanny, and as herself to comfort and advise the mommas.

About Stretchmarks:
Follow the journey of three new moms who embark on the adventure of a lifetime — Motherhood — and get a lesson in what not to not expect when they’re expecting (or not expecting). Guided by the mother of all mothers, Mother Nature, there is wisdom, laughter, tears, and even a little song and dance.

A bit o’ history:
The play was conceived 12 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area, by 4 moms who joined a writing group, after they were seeking to process their journey into NewMommaLand. Their individual experiences and voices were developed into a theater piece, that managed to touch on many common themes of motherhood…and lo’ and behold Stretchmarks was born. We brought it to the stage and and it has now been performed in many local San Francisco venues, including the Marsh, The Exit, The Phoenix, The Boxcar, The Creativity Theater, and our very own Womb Room Theater. The play has always been very well-recieved over the years, especially by Mommas as our greatest audience base…but, everyone seems to find something to connect with in this highly entertaining “dramedy” that will have you laughing one minute, crying the next, and back to laughing in no time… much like a life in the day of a new mom. :-)

We have had four generations of women in an audience: daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother…and each of them enjoyed the play, and experienced an eye-opening sense of appreciation and connection with each other.  In 2013, we took our show on the road to the East Coast for a debut in Baltimore, MD…and received a 5 star review from a DC Theater critic, who raved:
