VANYA & SONIA & MASHA & SPIKE
Written by Christopher Durang
Directed by Bonnie Hill
Winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, this delicious comedy revolves around the relationships of three middle-aged siblings, two of whom live together. An unannounced visit by their sister Masha, with her twentysomething boy toy, Spike, sets up a lively chain of events. They discuss their lives and loves, argue, and Masha threatens to sell the house. Some of the show’s elements are derived from the works of Anton Chekhov, including several of the character names, the play’s setting at a country house, and the theme of possible loss of the ancestral home.
