Audition Announcement: Garfield Center for the Arts seeks actors for By The Way, Meet Vera Stark
Auditions for By The Way, Meet Vera Stark, by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage, are scheduled for February 23-25, 5:30pm-7:30pm at The Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre, 210 High Street, Chestertown. Production is directed by Artist in Residence at the Garfield, Jeff Woodbridge, and will be on stage April 25-27 & May 2-4.
Production Synopsis: A 70-year journey into the life of Vera Stark, a headstrong African-American maid and budding actress, and her tangled relationship with her boss, a white Hollywood star desperately grasping to hold onto her career. When circumstances collide and both women land roles in the same Southern epic, the story behind the cameras leaves Vera with a controversial legacy scholars will debate for years to come.
Looking for actors who can play characters ages 25-55. African American actors needed! No previous experience required. Those auditioning for Vera should plan to sing 6 bars of a song a cappella. Production is also seeking stage crew and other production volunteers.
